Jan is humbled and proud to be on the planning committee for The Wilfred Owen Festival, Sept 15th - Nov 17th 2018 in Oswestry, Shropshire.
A festival of remembrance and commemoration to mark the centenary of Wilfred Owen's death and armistice day.
The theme of The Festival is; War - Conflict - Poetry - Peace.
Events range from; drama and re-enactments to poetry and musical concerts.
The main focus of The Festival will be the unveiling of a new life-size bronze statue of Wilfred Owen by sculptor Tim Turner with handwriting and poems by local schoolchildren incorporated on 'pages' falling from Owen's hand.
Jan has been working with schools on this project and other projects which include a Schools Poetry Slam and creative artwork.
There will also be an Artists Trail running throughout The Festival.
Events Jan is spearheading are; A Poets Day on the actual 100 anniversary of Owen's death - a day of poetry and music, including military representation.
Executed at Dawn - an evening lecture by author David Johnson - followed by poetry readings.
A 'Women of World War One - Poets and Inspirational Women' Day sharing the contribution of women throughout The Great War and beyond in poetry and service, with readings and music.
A drop-in workshop making collages on War and Peace together with a display of fictional WW1 letters written by herself and local writers.
